The gallery was profiled in the 21st September edition of the Antiques Trade Gazette as part of its feature on the Fair, which included an illustration of Peter Joyce's stunning Tide Lines (Curlew Cove), 2013.
"Head to Berkeley Square for the fifth LAPADA fair
After working in the Modern British art department at Phillips and later becoming director at Offer Waterman & Co, Jenna Burlingham founded Jenna Burlingham Fine Art in 2010 with a gallery in the Hampshire village of Kingsclere.
This year, she will exhibit at the LAPADA fair for the first time, with a selection of Modern British paintings, including an early 1950s John Piper mixed media collage of the batismal font carvings of Cowlam in the Yorkshire Wolds alongside a still life by Vanessa Bell and works by Ivon Hitchens and Keith Vaughan, together with some contemporary works by artists such as Ffiona Lewis, Keith Purser, Geoffrey Robinson and Daisy Cook, who the gallery have been exhibiting for the past few years.
On her reasons for exhibiting at the fair for the first time, Jenna said "our perception of the LAPADA fair is that it offers a very well-organised, central London occasion that, importantly for the gallery's growth, targets both new and old collectors and work at all price levels and genres. It is this range and breadththat we are seeking to attract, rather than a more confined, specifically 'Modern British' market."
The gallery has adopted the model of dealing both in privately sourced Modern British works at the high, specialist end of the market, as well as a range of more affordable paintings, prints, ceramics and sculpture in the £100-5000 price range, which no doubt helps to keep sales ticking over. Jenna said "our belief is that the market is showing increasing strength and that collecting enthusiasm has great potential but buyers are rightly discerning and price-sensitive and need to be sought out."
