Geoffrey Robinson 'Rooms'
Rooms is a series of painted relief constructions and works on canvas by Geoffrey Robinson, focussing on different interior and still life compostitions. These paintings represent Geoffrey's newest work and focus on largely abstract compostions which once formed the background for his earlier still lifes. By bringing what was once a background to be the main subject matter, his work has a simple clarity and balance of line and form. Some of the works are completely abstract compostitions and others juxtapose this abstraction with outlines of domestic objects and their negative spaces.
Born in East Africa in 1945, Geoffrey moved to England in 1955 and studied at the Bournemouth School of Art. He switched from purely abstract painting around twelve years ago, to painting semi-abstract still life pictures and was elected an 'Invited Artist' at the annual Discerning Eye exhibition in London and the subject of an ITV documentary.
