Although Ogston suggests this scene is depicting a hill village in Provence, there might be an alternative possible location. This panel appears closer stylistically and in size to views of Ceres, St. Monance and Largo, and specifically to his 1922 Italian views of Venice, (refer Glasgow Art Galleries, Nos. 2397, 2398 and 2399). This raises the possibility that this view might be of the environs of Florence (few examples have survived) rather than the South of France.
