Elli Carr is is a ceramic artist, with a background focused on sculpture and drawing.
Carr has been working with clay in a variety of ways for many years. After completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Sculpture at City and Guilds School of Art, Carr worked figuratively in clay and then cast into bronze. Drawing was also an important part of her work and continues to be so now. After having children, Carr decided to return to clay, with a desire to work more directly with the materials; this directed Carr's work towards handbuilding techniques of coiling, pinching and slabbing the clay, allowing her the freedom to bring a sculptural element to her vessels. Carr's work is abstract in its aesthetic intention, whilst also having a functional resonance.
