Heron was one of the most important British artists of the twentieth century and a leading figure in the St Ives School. His rich artistic legacy spanned the middle of the last century, though it is from the 1970s that the 'wobbly hard-edge' artworks date from. During this period, Heron was fascinated with colour associations, contrasting and complementary, which he explored as vivid 'jig-sawed' assemblages of interlocking shapes in flat colour. The gloriously sunny yellow reaching into the loose red and blue forms creates a sense of the 'jazzy', uplifting and exuberant. The bold and joyful abstractions are striking, conveying the Artist's love of colour and experimentation.
