Leaving Singapore for Britain in 1954 to study art at Central St Martins and later the Slade, Kim Lim’s artistic vernacular was in part formed by her personal journey moving from East to West. She studied both printmaking and sculpture with equal vigour, finding the disciplines enlightened one another. This series of woodblock prints highlight Lim’s aptitude in creating effortless, elegant compositions from elemental shapes and reference both the forms in Brancusi’s sculpture who was an early influence on her work and her early wooden sculpture, the muted tones of brown, beige and green complimenting the simplicity of the forms.
