Dick Lee 1923-2001

Dick Lee was a painter of landscapes and beach scenes, particularly in Normandy and Norfolk, of figures, interiors and still-life in oils, watercolours and gouache. Lee studied at Camberwell School of Art 1947-1950 and was awarded an Abbey Major Scholarship in 1951. He exhibited first at the Gallerie de Seine in 1958 and he then exhibited regularly in London a the New Grafton Gallery and in the provinces. He has shown the the London Group, at the Royal Academy and in many mixed exhibitions and his work is represented in public collections including the Arts Council Collecion. He taught at Maidstone College of Art 1957-7 and Camberwell 1953-1982. Influenced by Cezanne, his poetic, sensitive paintings are in the Camberwell tradition of observation and painterly response.

 

Born Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia, November 24, 1923.
